APS member Dr Isabella Ng and her team awarded EUR3.5 million grant by Horizon Europe
In response to the Call of EU Horizon, a team led by Dr Asuncion Fresnoza-Flot of the Université libre de Bruxelles of Belgium was awarded a three-year grant of more than EUR3.5 million to conduct a transnational research project on migration. The project, which has received an excellent review of 14 out of 15 marks, will begin in January 2023.
The consortium for the newly awarded Horizon Europe project consists of a total of 13 members from 11 selected European and Asian countries: Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Finland, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, China (Hong Kong) and Japan. As one of the Principal investigators and as a representative of China (Hong Kong), Dr Isabella Ng, Assistant Professor and Associate Head (Teaching and Learning) of the Department of Asian and Policy Studies (APS) will work with the consortium on the project.
Entitled “Decision making of aspiring (re)migrants to and within the EU: the case of labour market-leading migrations from Asia (AspirE)”, the project examines the decision-making process of aspiring (re)migrants from selected Southeast and East Asian countries (China (Hong Kong), Japan, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam) to and within selected EU member countries (Belgium, the Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Finland).
The results of this project will provide concrete information as to how individuals’ migration decisions change over time and on the specific stage at which mobility policies are more likely to play a role in shaping migration outcomes, which will enhance EU migration policies.
